Bone topped set key, (can be nicely aged if stained slightly with water stain, we often soak in vinegar first to open the grain a little) Most old barometers had bone set keys, these are genuine bone. Set key spindle (small) to mak your own keys. The shaft has indent where a plaited cord can be fixed to secure key from being misplaced. Unlike clock keys there was no standard size or design on barometer keys. This small key suits some fine Georgian stick barometers with small square shank on vernier adjuster. The large end of square hole in key is approx 1.8 mm which tapers smaller to depth of about 8mm Hole can be enlarged with square needle file and some time! if required, or more commonly the shaft on the barometer can be carefully filed to fit if needed. 20mm long shaft showing under top when made, with a 2mm solid sq. fixing for riveting knob being 12mm long.
