Mercury Tubes and filling kits

Glass blowing is almost a vanished art from decades ago, and the capillary glass used in Victorian days hard to obtain in the selection of sizes that Victorian and Georgian barometer makers had to choose from. Here at Barometer World we have invested in a variety of sizes of capillary tubes made for us and can offer a good selection to effect a good repalcement tube to restore a fine antique mercury barometer. The sizes we have are from 9mm to 14.5mm outside diameter with nominal 3mm bore. Larger tubes can some times be made but not easily. We offer a selection of types and sizes of tubes to suit an old stick barometer as antiques vary in size, e-mail us certain measurements (ask us for what we require) and we can make one to suit your measurements.
This ensures a better fit and more accuracy of reading. Wheel barometers tend to be more standard and we these off the shelf.

Thermometer scales and tubes

MERCURY THERMOMETERS due to the U.K. Environment Agency interpretation of the E.U. rules on mercury we are told by them that we can restore a mercury barometer but if it has a thermoemter on it then it can not be supplied with a mercury thermometer as that is classed as a seperate instrument and sales of new mercury thermoeters are no longer allowed. Whilst we are challenging such an interpretation we can no longer offer replacement mercury thermometers iif made after April 2009 to private customers and any trade which we supply may have there name requested by the Environment Agency for enforcement. Whilst this seems an incorrect interpretationof the E.U. rules designed to protect the restoration of antique barometers, and thermometers on such instrumenst are to the rest of us an integral part of such a barometer we are bound by the U.K. law until it is revised in the light of common sense - assuming of course that mercury thermometer makers survive untill such a time! The sale of old stock Mercury Thermoemters made before April 2009 is allowed so the ones we have (several hundred in total can be made available to anyone) but there will be no more available once our stock is sold.
